My Bedroom Tour! (DIY's and Redecoration)

I am beyond excited to write this lifestyle blog because it's something that I have put a ton of energy into lately!

I remember when I was in university my voice professor told us that we NEED to get rest to perform at our prime. But rest doesn't mean just sleeping. To fully relax into a deep sleep, did you know your chances are higher if your room is clean? And not just clean, but actually UNCLOGGED. Unclog everything from your bedroom that you don't need. Clutter, useless crap. Get some fresh flowers, and get yo sleep on!

So, all my life I have shared a room with my sister, Katie. While those years helped to form pretty much   one of the closest bonds I've ever had, when she moved off to university and I had finally, at 18 years old, my OWN room and personal space, I didn't really know what to do with it! So after a move to the basement, lots of saving up and planning and scrapping ideas, and replanning, I've finally gotten my bedroom to a place where I want it - and think it's completely "un-CLOGGED"!

I hope you do the same with your living space! And when I say unclog, I mean EVERYWHERE. Clean out our closet. Not just organize - THROW THINGS OUT. Give stuff away! Go through your dresser and figure out things that you really don't wear that often and could serve better purpose in the hands of someone else. Dust! Wash/vacuum your floors. Clean out from under your bed and clear off your dresser/night table/any surface. Open a window. Buy some flowers or a plant and light a candle! GIVE YOUR ROOM SOME LIFE. Without further ado, here are some pictures of my new project that I've been working on, in preparation for WELLNESS WEEK 2014 (which I am so excited to explain to you all in a bit!)

A few of the designs are even DIY'd, so if you have a creative bone in your body - try it sometime! It could give you a sense of accomplishment!
My cute dresser set up!

The left side of my dresser. I bought this cute leather jewellery box on clearance for about 1 bucks at winners. Going through my jewellery and giving away things that I really don't wear that much was a huge relief. Can you tell I have an earring addiction? Never leave the house without them! The little organizer in front I DIY'd with a shoebox lid and decorative duct tape.
The right side of my dresser. I got this red basket for free with avon and it just has a few essential hair care products, some lotion and my favourite body mists. The makeup organizer I got at a whopping FIVE dollars on clearance from winners. I don't wear a lot of makeup but at least now it's organized and not just floating in random bags everywhere!

This below was my first DIY for my room. I wanted a red and black vibe. I picked up some fake flowers from Dollarama and some double sided tape. Picked off all of the petals and taped them to my mirror! Super cute and easy DIY!

Right beside my dresser is my new bed. I kind of splurged on this bed spread as a gift to myself last Christmas! I bought it at Target for about 70 bucks after working towards it! The decorative pillows came with the set! Look for comfort sets like that so you don't have an addition expense!

To the right is a little black night stand I got from Walmart, spiced up with a reading lamp, a picture of my family and a few of my favourite scented candles (black cherry and vanilla) I love lighting both at the same time while reading or checking my emails!

My keyboard/guitar! Lots of songwriting happens here. I hung a picture of New York City (one of my FAVOURITE places) right above for some inspiration!

Here we have a few things for decor that I hung on my wall! This cute long quote photo for about 20 bucks, again at Winners. It's a nice daily reminder! My autographed picture of the cast of CHARMED (yeah...I'm obsessed) and a cool concert ticket DIY that I framed!

A cute decorative laundry basket to the left,
And a concert ticket DIY! Grab your concert tickets,
glue them to a sheet of paper, and frame them!

Fresh red roses for my desk!
My FAVOURITE DIY. It makes me a huge nerd but DON'T EVEN CARE! Have you ever heard of a VISION BOARD? Its basically a board you make so that you can write your short and long term goals, post motivational photos and quotes, and hopefully motivate you to get you to where you to be! Some people make theirs online but I wanted to make mine tangible! Note that I will me doing an ENTIRE blog on my personal vision board and the value of them (...yeah...I read a lot of self-help books!) later. I decided to buy a 12 dollar cork board from Walmart and some fabric! Staple the fabric to the bulletin board to give it a cuter and more personalized look! I had some leftover fake flowers from my dresser, so I used flat golden push pins to pin them on and tie the look together! Now all I need to do is fill it up with goals!

Finally, here is my desk! Where I get all dis shit that you see here DONE. My email checking, blogging, helping clients with fitness advice, and plugging into social media! It's too bad my desk wasn't this cute when I was actually in school! The desk is vintage as it was my dads when he was starting out his business in the 80s. Hence the NASTY shade of green - but I think it's super cute and unique! I got a little book holder and pencil holder for less than ten bucks and WalMart. Always have a cup of tea or coffee by my side, and get things done!

Like I said I've worked hard for the last two years so that I could afford getting some of the stuff for this room, I certainly hope this didn't come across as me flaunting anything! Just wanted to give you guys some insight into how and where I spend most of my time :)

Here are all the DIY's that I did for my room. A jewellery organizer from the lid of a shoebox, my concert ticket photo, my dream board and my mirror! Let me know if you do any DIY's for YOUR room and send me pictures! P.S the jewellery organizer and cork board decoration actually came from an awesome YouTuber that I enjoy following, Lauren. If you like things like that, check out her channel! Her YouTube name is LaurDIY and she has TONNES of cute ideas for style and decorative DIY's!

Have a great night everyone!

  1. Hi Meaghan! That DIY jewelry organizer you made looks so adorable. I wish I had your talent. I could try, but I'm scared that I might mess it up. Hahaha! Anyway, your bedroom looks so organized, and that bed spread and decorative pillows are just wonderful. Also, that lamp really brings out the color of your walls. Great job in decorating! Kudos to you! :)

  2. Roberta! I AM THE MOST UNCOORDINATED AND IMPATIENT visual artist there is! TRUST me, if I can do it, YOU can do it!!! For the jewellery organizer I used the lid of a cardboard box and covered it with decorative duct tape! I cut out little pieces of cardboard out/found small boxes (from earrings or whatever) to put inside and taped them inside (that way you have different sections). Use this video for help - it's what I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeXYsZDZwBY
